Granville Golf Club

Granville Golf Club is a superb links, one of the best in France ! Nestling among the dunes by the sea, this is an authentic links whose rugged, natural character has remained little changed during its 90 plus year history.

The mild climate ensures excellent playing conditions with good greens and dry fairways all year round on this traditional Scottish style course where the true challenge is provided by the wind. The course was updated to its present layout in 1999 as part of a drive to develop golf in France. It is now nearly 6000 metres - 6562 yards long and meanders through natural dunes and undulating fairways and offers several raised greens which make for challenging approach shots. The links greens drain naturally and thus the course has excellent all year round playing conditions.

Three short par four's (holes 3, 8 and 18) require pin point accuracy to the green whilst several of the others (4,5,6,13,15 and 17) are very long and can become fearsome in the winds which can come from sea or land. Of the five par three's, only the 7th is straightforward. The 2nd and 12th are long and the 10th and 16th have raised greens that are difficult to find from the tee. If you are not playing well, just enjoy the scenery and the atmosphere and the unique links feeling in the Irish or Scottish tradition.

Under the holiday sun it's an enchanting place to be, under the autumn sky when strong winds stir the rough it becomes an impressive, almost oppressive place to be. It is under these more challenging weather conditions that the course resembles its sister courses from across the English channel where true golf began. There is also a nine-hole course tucked behind the dunes which is short but quite tricky and certainly worth a visit.
